The concept of
dental implantology
is the replacement of missing teeth
by
placing an artificial
(titanium) root in
the jaw bone where
the teeth had been, |
and securing
a crown or denture
using this implant as a foundation. |
After an implant
is placed in the jaw bone, it will integrate
with the bone over several months through
a process called “osseointegration”.
A structure called the abutment is secured
onto the implant and the dental prosthesis
such as a crown is then placed over it.
After decades
of research and clinical success, dental implants
are becoming the number one choice for tooth
replacement therapy.
